The CoResearch Model: Preliminary results and lessons learnt

From 23-24 May 2017, ADC participated in the workshop “Co-Research Model: Preliminary results and lessons learnt”, co-organized by CARE International, the Institute for Studies of Society, Economy and Environment (iSEE), and Bac Kan province's Women's Union in Bac Kan city. The workshop is attended by representatives from 8 co-research groups, Bac Kan province, the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, Women Unions of Vietnam, ADC and representatives of provincial, district and commune levels, as well as media representatives based Bac Kan and Hanoi. This is a workshop to present findings and lessons from the on-going project Voice and Rights for Ethnic Minority Women in Phuc Loc and Banh Trach communes, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province using co-research model as a research method.

Ethnic minority women from 8 co-research groups of Phuc Loc and Banh Trach communes shared their experiences in the implementation process of the co-research model conducted by them and in their own community on difference issues such as: environmental pollution, children dropping out of school, the art of Hat Then - Dan Tinh of the Tay, husbandry of indigenous black pig, the village meeting house. The difficulties that ethnic minority women of co-research groups had faced, the lessons, skills they had learned and the changes of their life had been shared in the workshop.

Representatives attended the workshop appreciated the efforts of ethnic minority women in learning and researching the issues existing in their communities and suggested to replicate the model. This is the chance for ADC to learn more about the co-research model to apply and integrate the model into its research activities with the communities to enhance abilities and voices for ethnic minority women in the mountainous area in upcoming time.
