Supporting ethnic minorities, especially women, to develop their livelihoods based on local resources so that they can have a better life is the mission of ADC. That's why we implemented the project "Reducing the impacts of industrial chicken meat production in support of ethnic minority women and small-scale heritage breed chicken farming in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam" with the sponsorship of Tiny Beam fund. In August 2022, ADC has cooperated with the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry to organize 02 seminars in Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang with the theme "Reducing the impact of industrial chicken farming and supporting ethnic minority women to develop small-scale local chicken flocks in the Northern mountainous area”. More than 80 delegates attended. Through the workshop, the research team of ADC shared research results on the impact of industrial chicken production and supported ethnic minority women to develop local chicken flocks in 4 districts of Dong Hy and Phu Luong of the province. Thai Nguyen province and Tan Yen and Yen The districts of Bac Giang province. The development trend and impact of industrial chicken farming in the US were shared by speaker Mr. Aaron J. Kingsbury at the conference, which was well received by the delegates. At the same time, the scientific reports of speakers from Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry and local authorities at the district level were also shared at the Workshop.
The seminar was organized as an opportunity for people as well as local authorities, research agencies, and Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry to have the opportunity to listen to, share with each other, and acknowledge the negative impacts of industrial chicken production, an aspect that is rarely mentioned, and at the same time find the best solution to support ethnic minority women to develop local chicken flocks. With its efforts, through conducting research and organizing seminars, ADC will provide local authorities with scientific and practical evidence for them to consider in policies, and support households, especially ethnic minority women, to develop local chicken breeds on a small scale.
