Training workshop "Identifying and using indigenous knowledge in climate change adaptation"

October 7th, 2015 ADC and Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Bac Kan jointly organized the "Identifying and using indigenous knowledge in climate change adaptation" training workshop in Bac Kan city. The representatives attended the workshop are from the People's Committee Office of the province, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Crop Production Expenses and Plant Protection, Agricultural Extension Center, the Women's Union, Department of Agriculture from districts of Bac Kan province, commune governments in project areas.

At the workshop, ADC had shared experiences in building models of climate change adaptation based on the guiding documentation of "Identifying and using indigenous knowledge in climate change adaptation based on community " implemented by the center and the effectiveness in knowledge, economy, society has achieved. Representative participated in the workshop highly appreciated the efforts of ADC in supporting people to adapt to climate change, diversify livelihoods and improve incomes. The participants in the workshop also listened to experts from CARE International in Vietnam in climate change shared about skills in using tools to identify indigenous knowledge such as: disaster mapping, crop distribution; topographic cross-section survey; seasonal disaster and natural calendar; personal interview, male/female group discussion; analysis/synthesis information sheet of the models of community-based adaptation using indigenous knowledge. Ending the workshop the participants appreciated the ADC research on indigenous knowledge in climate change adaptation based on community, having orientation in the integration of indigenous knowledge into the socioeconomic development program at the local areas in the upcoming time.
