Main objectives:
Exploiting and sustainably developing genetic resources of some rare and endemic indigenous Paphiopedilum species in the North-East of Vietnam: Paphiopedilum Vietnamense; Paphiopedilum. tranlienianum; Paphyopedilum Micronthum; and Paphiopedilum emersonii contribute to diversify crops structure, increase household income for flower growers in the North-East region of Vietnam.
Expected outcomes:

Database of 4 Paphiopedilum species: Paphiopedilum vietnamense; Paphiopedilum tranlienianum; Paphiopedilum Micranthum; and Paphiopedilum emersonii are built (including distribution area, argo-biological characteristics, genealogy, genetic diversity…)

Nursery gardens for 4 endemic Paphiopedilum species with the number of 500 individuals/species (2000 individuals/4 species) are established.

4 propagation manuals, 4 planting manuals as a basis for conservation and sustainable development of genetic resources of 4 Paphiopedilum species.

A model on seed production for 4 Paphiopedilum species with a scale of 3,000 individuals/ species and built a model of growing commercial Paphiopedilum for 4 species with a scale of 2,000 individuals/species.
After more than one year of implementation, thanks to the effort of the research team and the support of experts on orchids conservation from the Institute of Vegetables and Fruits (Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Van Dong; and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Khuat Huu Trung from Genetics Institute), the research team has successfully propagated and conserved four Paphiopedilum species: Paphiopedilum vietnamense; Paphiopedilum tranlienianum; Paphiopedilum Micranthum; and Paphiopedilum emersonii in the laboratory and greenhouse.
Especially, the research team propagated successfully Paphiopedilum vietnamense orchid which has been extinct in nature and has been included in Vietnam Red Data Book and the World prohibiting exploitation and trading with a multiplier of 3-5 times. The samples are kept in the best conditions of the laboratory and the center's greenhouse.
