Enhancing community capacity in forest management (2006-2009)

Implementation period: 1/2006-12/2009

Location: Xuan Lac, Ban Thi commune, Cho Don district, BacKan Province

Budget: 297,032 USD

Objectives of the project: Poor communities, who are dependent on forest resources in two communes in Cho Don District, BacKan province will be enhanced in their capacity to manage forests sustainably and shared the costs and profits in a sustainable way.

Key results:

Building forest managing systems:

  • 6 groups of forest user were established and operated
  • 57% of poor peoplevà52 % of women are members of forest user groups.

Forest land use plans and  forest land allocation:

  • 1500 hectares of forest land were allocated to communities.

Deploying and building capacity:

  • 300 residents were trained about rights and responsibilities of forest users

Introducing income creating activities:

  • 580 households were able to participate in income raising activities
  • 30% participants are women in total participants in training courses

Replicating and contributing opinion in policies:

  • There were 20 communes and towns have applied guidelines building by the project
  • 4 works about guidelines and experietlessions of the project were published.

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • 60people participated in monitoring activities.
  • 19 most typical stories about the changes since having the project have been selected to point out the results and impacts of the project activities until this moment. These stories also mentioned to the positive changes in the Enhancements of capacity, livelihoods, gender awareness, land and forest land use rights etc.
