Research on the application of agro-meteorological information in agriculture to respond to climate change

Location: Cho Moi district, Bac Kan

Budget: $ 50,000

Objective: raising the capacity to adapt to climate change and reducing natural disaster risks for ethnic minority communities in Cho Moi District, Bac Kan province in the agricultural and forestry production.

Key results:

  • 10 officers of the province; 15 officers of districts, 40 officers of communes and at least 1,200 households in Cho Moi district had the enhancements in their capacity for climate change adaptation and in the use of agricultural technology information in climate change adaptation in Cho Moi District, Bac Can province.
  • Building 01 agricultural meteorology partition map for whole Cho Moi district, detailed agro-climatic in sub-regions of the in order to recommend crops to local areas.
  • Building seasonal scenario taking into climate change factors for Cho Moi district in each agro-climatic sub-region. Publishing agricultural meteorological bulletins monthly and seasonally according to service agricultural production for the local people and government in the area.
  • Creating agricultural meteorology information handbook for the residents and local governments of Cho Moi district, Bac Kan province and heightening capacity in using documents for the local government and community.

Social impacts:

These activities are carried out in parallel with the activities of the livelihood projects, ensuring the sustainability and involvement of community, especially women.

Enhancing capacity of EM women in climate change adaptation and reducing pressure on the woman's shoulders, increasing gender equality in the community. Besides, children are able to go to school and society has the sustainable development.
